And the seasons they go round and round

Noonday Notes

Issue No. 29

January 10th, 2026

I think I might try this new thing where I write this reflection on Friday mornings after I sit with the previous night’s discussion in Life Group. It never fails that when a group of people get together and honestly share their feelings and what’s on their heart that a coherent theme reveals itself and all seem to connect with something someone said. Some themes that emerged: life and death; hope and expectation; changes and stability; not grumbling in our seasons of wilderness. All threads one can find in farming as well.

There are seasons of planting and waiting, seasons of growth and abundance, and seasons where things feel quiet and bare. As we head into our second year at Noonday Farms, I’m aware of how much I’ll do differently this time around. New choices shaped by mistakes and the lessons I couldn’t have learned any other way. It is humbling. But also deeply merciful.

Each new season gives us another chance. The soil doesn’t hold grudges. What we learned can be carried forward, we aren’t trapped by it. There’s grace built in the rhythm of the land. An invitation to begin again, a little wiser and a little more grounded than before.

Last night we shared both the joy of new life that’s on the way and the weight of grief and loss that some of us are carrying. Hope and sorrow side by side. Like winter and spring overlapping. By the way, I’m not sure we are going to have winter this year.

There’s a lot of hope for what this year could hold, paired with the reality that growth always comes with uncertainty. Farming teaches us that both can be true. You prepare the ground, you plant carefully, you show up consistently, but you still depend on things beyond your control.

It’s in the dependence where our faith is rooted. Still planting. Still learning. Still growing.

One of the best gifts of farming is its cyclical nature. It’s redemptive. You fail, you learn, and you begin again.

Scripture reminds us of this rhythm of course.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22–23 ESV

Every season offers a fresh start. The soil forgives. And if we’re open to it, it teaches us. Again and again. Like a “carousel of time”.
